Tour Description

Explore Costa Rica’s tallest volcano and other interesting attractions east of San Jose on this Irazu Volcano, Orosi Valley & Botanical Gardens Tour. Your tour starts in the morning with a pickup from your San Jose area hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle, and then you will go to the Province of Cartago, where the whole tour takes place.

Travel to Irazu, the tallest volcano of Costa Rica, and admire its impressive main crater, which is normally covered by a beautiful turquoise-color lagoon. At this volcano, you will be able to observe its main craters, lava rock formations, and the rare Moon-like environment of its surroundings.

Continue the tour with a visit to the historic City of Cartago, the former Capital of Costa Rica. At Cartago, you will visit the “Basilica de Los Angeles Cathedral”, which is the biggest of the country, and home to the largest pilgrimage of Costa Rica on August 1st and 2nd, when an estimated number of 2.5 million people walk from different parts of the country to this Cathedral.

Following you will travel to the Orosi Valley, where you will be able to admire beautiful views of the Costa Rican countryside. Savor a delicious Costa Rican lunch in a local restaurant, located next to the Cachi Lake, and enjoy beautiful views of this gorgeous part of the country. At Orosi, you will also visit its famous colonial church, which was the first built church in Costa Rica.

Later on, you will visit the Lankester Botanical Gardens, a University of Costa Rica’s Center of investigation that protects many tropical plant species, such as orchids, bromeliads, and others. At the end of this visit to the botanical gardens, you will be taken back to your San Jose area hotel.

Special Notes:

The visit to the Cathedral in Cartago might not be possible on certain dates of the year, due to the large numbers of people who visit this historic-religious site.
