On this Sloth Encounter and Cultural Towns tour you will visit a real animal rescue center specialized in sloths, where you will have the opportunity to learn how injured animals are treated and helped back into the wild.
This tour starts by picking you up from your San Jose area hotel and then you will be on a short drive until reaching the rescue center, located just outside of San Jose. At this rustic center you will be able to see the multiple “sloth gardens”, where these animals are rehabilitated; and most of the time the visitors will have the chance to see the workers feeding them. There are normally 20-40 sloths in this rescue center, as well as many other animals, such as monkeys, coatis, kinkajous, toucans, scarlet macaws, parrots and other wildlife species native to Costa Rica that find shelter in this place.
After the tour at this sanctuary, you will visit the folkloric town of Sarchi, known as the artisan’s birthplace of Costa Rica. At Sarchi you will visit the typical oxcarts factory, where you will learn how typical oxcarts are built in Costa Rica. The typical oxcart is the national symbol of the work of our country and here they also have a large souvenir shop, in case you wish to do some souvenir shopping during your trip. After the oxcart factory, you will visit Sarchi’s Central Park, where you will have the opportunity to see the biggest oxcart in the world, this giant structure holds the Guinness World Record.
Continuing with your tour you will visit the typical town of Grecia, where you will be able to admire its rare metal church, as well as its beautiful Central Park. At the end of this visit, we will take you back to your San Jose area hotel.
Special Notes:
