Tour Description

Explore Poas Volcano National Park, have a close encounter with sloths and learn about the coffee and strawberries of Costa Rica on this amazing Combo Tour from San Jose. This excursion starts in the morning with pickups from the San Jose area hotels in an air-conditioned vehicle, and you will then travel to Poas Volcano National Park, located in the Central Volcanic Mountain Range. At this national park, you will take a short hike in the cloud forest, and then you will arrive at the volcano’s main active crater, which is one of the biggest active craters in the world.

Continue this fun trip with a visit to a strawberry farm, where you will learn the whole process of cultivating strawberries, which is one of the main economic activities of the Poas Volcano communities. At this farm, you will also have the chance to taste freshly harvested strawberries, as well as enjoy amazing views of the Central Valley of Costa Rica on clear days.

Following you will participate in an interesting coffee tour, which is done on a real-working coffee farm, not in a tourist setup. At this farm, you will learn how coffee is produced in Costa Rica, and your guide will also take you to the coffee processing plant to show you the whole process from the bean to the cup. At the end of this visit, you will taste a freshly brewed cup of coffee from the beans harvested on this farm. Afterward, you will have a delicious lunch in a local restaurant.

Finish this exciting day of adventure with a visit to an animal rescue center specializing in the treatment of injured sloths, where you will have the chance to observe some of these beautiful rainforest animals up close. At this wildlife sanctuary you will also have the chance to admire other wild animals native to Costa Rica, such as ocelots, peccaries, scarlet macaws, parrots, kinkajous, and others, just please be aware that the type of animals they have at a particular time varies because many of them are released back into the wild after they have recovered. At the end of the visit to this animal sanctuary, you will be taken back to your hotel in the San Jose area.

 Special Notes

Please be aware that Poas Volcano’s crater will be visible just on clear days.

If it rains during your visit to the sloths’ rescue center, we might have to cancel the viewing of other animals, but the sloths would always be observed.
