The tour starts in the morning when your driver picks you up from your San Jose area hotel, and you will then travel to the foothills of Poas Volcano, where the coffee tour takes place. Learn everything about the process of coffee at “Hacienda Alsacia”, the first farm owned by Starbucks Coffee, which is also the most important coffee research center in the world.

At this farm scientists are constantly creating new varieties of coffee that are resistant to the newer and stronger diseases that affect the plants, and they donate many of their findings to local and international coffee farmers around the world, who have lost their harvests for different reasons. This farm is also dedicated to the production of high quality coffee, the rich volcanic soil of this area produces some of the best coffee in the world.   

Walk around this plantation with a local expert guide, who will show you how coffee plants are grown, as well as the process of harvesting the “golden bean”, name given by Costa Ricans to the coffee beans. Continuing with your trip you will participate of a traditional chocolate tour, where you will learn everything about the history of cocoa and the uses our ancestors gave it in ancient times. Your guide will give you a full explanation of how cocoa was used thousands of years ago, until the multiple uses we give it today. On this educational tour you will be able to see and taste the cocoa fruits, you will also learn how the cocoa beans are processed traditionally, and you will have the chance to taste cocoa in different ways, including the delicious chocolate that is locally produced .At the end of this tour your driver will take you back to your San Jose Hotel.
